Who wants to join me in a virtual Venus de Miles ride?! I’ve been riding in Venus de Miles since about 2015. It’s an all-womxn’s bike ride that typically goes through Longmont and Boulder. As how all other rides this year have gone, Venus de Miles is now going virtual.

This means that we can still support the Greenhouse Scholars but from our front door instead.

Greenhouse Scholars

Registration fees go toward Greenhouse Scholars, an amazing education nonprofit cultivating leaders to change low-income families and communities.

Greenhouse Scholars work with the next generation of leaders and change agents to change the trajectory of their families, their communities, and broader global communities. Greenhouse Scholars says that “by growing a community of leaders we have the opportunity to radically change the prospects of low-income communities around the globe.”

They add that each of their scholars directly impacts an average of 60 low-income middle- and high-school students. This means that the more students they help, the more these students help others. We help these students break the cycle of poverty affecting their families and communities.

Their program is broken into 8 components:

Impact

Scholars are provided with a strategic framework to elevate their impact, both individually and as a group, and inspire younger generations of students from low-income communities.

Financial Support

Scholars may apply for two forms of financial support each year; a four-year, renewable scholarship award of up to $5,000 and ‘flex funding’ grants of up to $2,000 per award. Flex Funding grants support a wide range of projects and experiences related to the vision and values of Greenhouse Scholars.

Summer Symposium

An annual, world-class, multi-day gathering that brings together all our Scholars. Workshops, speakers, panel discussions, and group projects allow Scholars to explore our core values, expand their thinking, and cultivate their leadership skills.

Skills Modules

The broad range of our community’s expertise is shared with our Scholars through targeted, modular online content to help develop personal and professional skills.

Internship

Scholars are coached through the process of finding and making the most of their internships, along with other in-person learning opportunities at various organizations.

Peer Support

Scholars celebrate and support one another, gathering in small groups across the country on a specific day annually.

Professional Networking

Successful professionals from the Greenhouse Scholars community engage with Scholars, broadening their networks and connections. This diverse network motivates Scholars to think strategically about their direction and impact and provides essential insights and connections into the professional world.

Mentorship

Greenhouse Scholars mentors are community leaders who guide, encourage, and inspire Scholars to achieve more than they could on their own. Scholars are matched with their mentor prior to college and maintain the relationship throughout college and beyond.

Community Impact of Greenhouse Scholars

  • Their Scholars have founded 20 new, distinct non-profit organizations.
  • Their Scholars have tutored, mentored, and inspired over 56,000 middle- and high-school students.
  • Their Scholars have supported over 360 impact projects around the globe.

Venus de Miles Virtual Ride

“Virtual” can mean in the comfort of your own home or from the comfort of your own home –

you decide! Ride the course length of your choosing indoors or outdoors, in your basement,

or on your favorite route near your home. You can select from one of their suggested routes. I think I’ll create one for my team, Another Disco Party.

Your virtual rider registration comes with a complimentary t-shirt and goodie bag from their

sponsors and partners and this year’s bags are better than ever!

Rider packets will be available at the bike shop you select when you register for the ride. If you don’t pick a location or if you select day-of packet pick up, you’ll get instructions to select a new location.

Social Media Contest

Take photos of your ride (selfies encouraged!) wherever you are and share them on

social media using the hashtags #VenusdeMiles. They’ll be sharing these images after

the ride on their own page too!

Images shared on our Venus de Miles 2020 event page will be up for entrance into their

contest. Venus will be awarding winners for the following categories:

– Most Creative Photo with Your Bike
